Beware of "Phishing" Scam!

If you have received an email from any organization stating that your Credit Union account has been suspended or in any way compromised, PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND! POPA Federal Credit Union will contact you directly if there is any concern about your Credit Union account. Please protect your privacy and do not give any information to anyone you do not know. You can click on the sample letter below that was recently sent to one of our members stating that they are from the National Association of Federal Credit Union.
There has also been a new phishing scam email circulating amongst other Credit Union members recently as well. This email appears to be sent from the California Credit Union League asking members to fill out their personal information for a chance to receive a free iPhone. Never respond to emails that appear to be offical league giveaways/surveys. The League would not directly contact Credit Union members and it would never ask for personal information. If you have received any of these type of emails, please contact us at 800.369.7672.
A member of our Credit Union has recently received a text message stating that it is from their financial institution and that their account has been frozen. This is a new phishing scam that asks members to call the number provided in the text message to "unfreeze" their account by entering their debit card number, pin number and expiration date. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND if you receive this text message and contact the Credit Union.

WHAT IS CHECK 21 AND HOW IT MAY AFFECT YOU

POPA FCU will be adopting the Check 21 policy in mid-December 2007. Check 21 (the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act) is a new federal law that became official on October 28, 2004. In order to make check processing faster, federal law now permits financial institutions such as, credit unions and banks, to replace original checks with "substitute checks." Check 21 will cut the time it takes a check to clear from days to hours. So you may want to think about your checking habits. Click here for a list of frequently asked questions and answers. If you should have any questions regarding Check 21 that is not covered in our FAQ, please call the office nearest you for additional information.
TIPS ON MAKING YOUR POPA VISA PAYMENTS
-
If you have online banking access, the simplest way to make a payment would be to transfer the funds directly from your Savings or Checking account toward your VISA loan.
-
If you don't have online banking access, you can submit an application located on the left-hand side of this page. A temporary password will then be generated and mailed out to you via mail within 2 business days. Online banking is a FREE service that allows you to view all of your account(s), account(s) histories, stop payments, conduct transfers, etc.
-
Please DO NOT use POPA's bill payment system to make a payment toward your POPA VISA loan.
-
If you are using another financial institution's bill payment system to make a payment toward your POPA VISA loan, please make sure that the POPA VISA account number is accurate when inputing it into the system.
-
If you are sending in a check from another financial institution to make a payment toward your POPA VISA loan, please write your POPA account and loan number on the check if you're not enclosing a payment coupon.
