Who is eligible to become a member?

At POPA Federal Credit Union, we proudly serve those who serve and protect. If you or someone in your household works in law enforcement in Southern California, or employed in the Police Protection and Foundation Industry within the following counties you may be eligible to join our Credit Union family:

  • Imperial
  • Kern
  • Los Angeles
  • Orange
  • Riverside
  • San Bernardino
  • San Diego
  • San Luis Obispo
  • Santa Barbara
  • Ventura

This also includes the employees of the following law enforcement and public safety agencies:

  • Federal
  • State
  • County
  • Municipal

Additional Groups:

  • Employees and volunteers of organizations supporting law enforcement agencies in the above counties
  • Spouses of deceased individuals who were eligible for POPA FCU membership
  • Retirees, pensioners, or annuitants from eligible employment
  • Corporate or legal entities affiliated with the above fields
  • Explorers and Cadets (If under 18, a birth certificate, Social Security card, or school ID is required. An adult co-signer is needed to open accounts.)

Membership for immediate family members

Immediate family members of current POPA FCU members are also eligible to join. Immediate family members include: spouses, children, siblings, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, step-parents, step-children, step-siblings, and adopted individuals. For immediate family members, a verbal approval from the existing POPA FCU member is required to be completed and documented on the membership application agreement.

Membership for household members

Household members are eligible to join, requiring a verbal approval from the existing POPA FCU member. Requirement for eligibility as a household member is that the individual is living in the same residence maintaining a single economic unit; any person who is a permanent member of or participates in the maintenance of the household.

Membership for spouses of members

Spouses of members who have passed away while within the field of membership are eligible for membership. Information may be verified with a death certificate.

Your membership gives you access to any of our convenient products and services, such as online banking, bill pay, direct deposit, payroll deduction, and so much more. As a member, you also receive one vote during an election at our annual membership meeting.

How Do I Become A Member?

Simply open a Regular Share Account account with a minimum deposit of $10.00.

Can't Apply Online?

If you don’t have access to a computer with the internet please follow these instructions:

  1. Complete the Membership Application
  2. Complete the Membership Acknowledgement (must be notarized if mailing in)
  3. Mail or bring into the POPA office nearest you (include two forms of ID & notarized Membership Acknowledgement if mailing in, along with your initial deposit of at least $10.00)
