ach micr update

What Is Changing?

To ensure the accuracy and security of all Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions, POPA Federal Credit Union will require the use of your full 14-digit account number, also known as your MICR number, for all ACH activity starting October 1, 2025.

If your ACH transactions (including direct deposits, bill payments, or automatic withdrawals) are not currently using your 14-digit MICR number, you must update your account information with the originating company or institution before this date.

Member Number vs. MICR Number

Some members may currently be using their member number for ACH transactions. While your member number is used for accessing Online Banking, it is different from your 14-digit MICR account number required for ACH payments.

Only your 14-digit MICR number can be used to successfully process ACH transactions.
ACH entries using only a member number will be returned beginning October 1, 2025.

Please ensure that your 14-Digit MICR is accurate. Some members may be using their MICR but notice that their ACH transactions are not being processed. This is mostly due to invalid MICR which means some numbers used may be transposed or incorrect. We encourage you all to verify the MICR to ensure it is accurate. ACH entries with an invalid 14-digit MICR will be returned beginning October 1, 2025.

How to Locate Your 14-Digit MICR Number

You can easily find your MICR number using any of the methods below:

1. Online Banking

  • Log in to your POPA Online Banking account.
  • On the My Accounts page, click on the name of your account.
  • Your 14-digit account number and routing number (322085318) will be displayed.

2. Paper Checks

  • Look at the bottom of any POPA check.
  • You’ll see three groups of numbers:
    • The first group is the routing number: 322085318
    • The second group is your 14-digit account number (MICR number)
    • The third group is the check number

What Happens If I Don’t Update?

Any ACH transactions submitted without the 14-digit MICR number after October 1, 2025, will be returned and not processed.

To avoid any disruption in payments such as:

  • Paychecks
  • Bill payments
  • Government deposits
  • Transfers

Please ensure your account information is updated with your payment originators.

No Action Needed If...

If you are already using your 14-digit MICR number for all ACH transactions, no further action is required.

Not Using ACH Transactions?

If you do not use ACH transactions, this change will not impact you, and no action is necessary. You may disregard this update.
